Coben’s first job was in his grandfather’s travel industry, at age 26, where he started writing his first book. He published his first book Play Dead in 1990 followed by Miracle Cure.
He won the 1996 Anthony Award for Best Paper Original for his novel Deal Breaker. The book Fade Away won the 1007 Shamus Award and Edgar Award for Best Paperback Original. Fade Away was nominated for the Antony, Barry, and Dilys award. The novel, Back Spin, won the Barry Award in 1998 and was nominated for the Dilys Award.
His book, The Key to My Father, is a story about his father who died of a heart attack and it was published on Father’s Day in 2003 in The New York Times.

Director Guillaume Canet released a French language film from Cohen’s book Tell No One in 2006 titled Ne le dis a Personne. His second book to be adapted on the screen was No Second Chance in a 2015 French miniseries. In 2005, the book Just One Look was also adapted to the screen.
In 2016, he directed the TV show The Five, a crime drama in British, that was showing on Sky 1, and two years later, he directed the show Safe which was aired on Netflix in 190 countries.
Cohen’s Personal Life
Harlan Coben was born in January 1962 in Newark and grew up in Livingston with Governor Chris Christine. He graduated from Livingston High School and then joined Amherst College as a member of the Psi Upsilon fraternity graduating in 1984. His interest in writing started while in college.
He is married to Ann Armstrong Coben, a pediatrician, and has four children. He lives in Ridgewood, New Jersey with his family.
