The band worked with Gamble and Leon Huff with hits like ‘Wake Up Everybody’ and ‘If You Don’t Know Me by Now’. He defined the sound of Philadelphia as he was a passionate well-known R&B superstar.

Pendergrass was the first R&B singer to release five multi-platinum albums from 1977 to 1982. The album had hits like ‘I Don’t Love You Anymore’, ‘Turn Off the Lights’ and ‘Close the Door’. He collaborated with Kenny Gamble, his friend, for one of his biggest hits. He became a representative of the R&B genre with hits like ‘Only You’ and holding concerts dedicated to ladies only.

Unfortunately, in 1982, he was involved in a car accident that left him paralyzed. His voice was slightly affected but he continued to perform although he was in a wheelchair. He did major hits like ‘Hold Me’ and You’re My Latest My Greatest Inspiration’. His best encouraging song after the crash was ‘Life is a Song Worth Singing’.
